Why Survivor’s Boston Rob, Parvati Shallow and More Didn’t Appear in Season 50A twist of fate set Jason Torrell on the journey of a lifetime. The Survivor Season 49 contestant was unanimously eliminated off-island on the Oct. 22 episode of the CBS competition series, but the elimination brought mixed emotions as he barely missed the match. “I think I have an original idea about it. Or rather, I don’t think I have an original idea, I have a unique perspective. Because the reason I’m in the game anyway is as a substitute,” he said in an interview with Men’s Journal,…
If you inherited a personal retirement account, the IRS could impose penalties of up to 25% if there are significant changes in 2025 and no action is taken by the end of the year.Starting in 2025, certain non-spouse heirs, including adult children, must begin taking required minimum distributions (RMDs) while emptying inherited IRAs over a 10-year period, according to IRS regulations announced in 2024. The shift comes as investors prepare for a “massive wealth transfer,” with more than $100 trillion expected to flow to heirs by 2048, according to a December report from Cerulli Associates. OpenAI this week released an AI-powered web browser called ChatGPT Atlas. This made me wonder, “Is it finally time to ditch Safari?” This news was on our minds when Max Zeff, Sean O’Kane, and I discussed the browser landscape (including lesser-known alternatives) on the latest episode of the Equity podcast. But I don’t think any of us will make a big transition anytime soon. First, Sean pointed out that many companies have tried to usurp the dominant browser position, but ultimately failed, because browsers alone cannot make money. Of course, that’s unlikely to be a problem for OpenAI, whose funding…
Ecuadorian President Daniel Novoa has survived not one, not two, but three suspected assassination attempts for quite some time. The latest of these apparently included gifts of jam and chocolate laced with toxic chemicals. The president made the claim to CNN’s Fernando del Rincon on Thursday, saying the gift contained “very high concentrations” of the three chemicals and that “it would have been virtually impossible for them to exist together at that level” unless the gift had additives added to it. The incident comes just weeks after another assassination attempt in which a crowd threw stones at Noboa’s car as…
New car prices are higher than ever.Average sales prices reached $50,080 in September, the first time they exceeded $50,000, according to Kelley Blue Book. The milestone came as shoppers rushed to buy electric vehicles before a $7,500 federal tax credit expired on Sept. 30, with EVs selling for an average of $58,124, leading to an overall price increase, according to KBB.New car prices typically rise in the early fall, but September’s year-on-year increase was the largest since spring 2023, due to increases in EV purchases, luxury goods sales and, to a lesser extent, tariffs, KBB said.”The removal of[EV]incentives could cause electric…
Stocks rose for the second week in a row to hit a record high on Friday as Washington’s trade and shutdown drama overshadowed cooling inflation data and solid earnings. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq rose 2% and 2.3%, respectively, for the week. In fact, the S&P 500 index on Friday hit a high above 6,800 for the first time in history before closing just below that level. Both stock benchmarks hit record highs at Friday’s close. The consumer price index for September, which was released 10 days late due to the federal government shutdown, was encouraging as stock prices rose…
rome — A Japanese tourist fell to his death late Friday night from the perimeter wall surrounding the ancient Pantheon in central Rome, local police told CNN. The man, named by the Japanese embassy as Morimasa Hibino, 69, was found by a priest in a ditch next to a monument about 7 meters (23 feet) below the road and alerted authorities. Ancient Rome lies about 23 feet below today’s road level, and many ancient ruins, such as the Pantheon, appear sunken. According to local media, the man’s daughter, who was traveling with him, said that the man was suffering from…

The overall rate of increase was 0.3% for the month and 3% for the year, both slightly below consensus expectations. The same was true…
