MARKET UPDATE: Stocks are up on Friday, with the S&P 500 trading at record highs, extending its gains to about 2% this week. Markets are shaking off concerns about a potential trade dispute with Canada on Friday after President Donald Trump announced he was ending negotiations with the country. Rather, the market rose as September’s CPI was slightly weaker than expected. The report brought a sigh of relief, allaying fears that the economy was facing…
China’s newest aircraft carrier may be capable of only about 60% of the air operations of a 50-year-old U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, two former U.S. carrier officers said, a practical combat limitation for a ship intended to revolutionize the Chinese navy’s fleet. Officers told CNN that the soon-to-be-commissioned Fujian’s flight deck configuration limits the pace at which aircraft can be launched and recovered, especially when compared to America’s Nimitz-class carriers. “The Fujian ship has only about 60% of the operational capability of the Nimitz class,” said Karl Schuster, a former U.S. Navy captain who served on two U.S. aircraft carriers.…
Thirty-two years ago, Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen created double, double toil, and trouble. By this time, the then seven-year-old twins had already become the youngest self-made millionaires. After launching her career as Michelle Tanner on Full House at eight months old, Mary-Kate and Ashley quickly expanded their empire. The child actors-turned-fashion designers founded their own company, Dualstar, which went on to produce all of their direct-to-VHS movies (including, of course, Double, Double Toil, and Trouble). The made-for-TV movie premiered on ABC on October 30, 1993, and has since become a somewhat neglected Halloween centerpiece, save for the Olsen twins’…

Bank of America named several stocks that are well-positioned ahead of its quarterly report. Wall Street investment banks say companies like MetaPlatform are attractive and have more room to run. Other buy-rated companies reviewed by CNBC Pro include Roblox, Wex, Coupang, and Trip.com. Roblox Bank of America says the gaming company is firing on all cylinders. “Tactically, we expect it to beat our conservative outlook and be higher,” analyst Omar Desouky said ahead of Roblox’s earnings report later this month. The bank acknowledged that the share price may be “driven by increased participation” but said it was still too attractive…
dublin Reuters — Catherine Connolly, a veteran of far-left Irish politics, on Saturday delivered a scathing attack on the centre-right coalition that was recently re-elected as president by a wide margin. Mr Connolly, 68, has long been a critic of the European Union in Ireland, an overwhelmingly pro-EU country backed by a left-wing opposition party, but he has a low profile and was underestimated by many at the start of the race in a largely ceremonial role. Connolly, an independent candidate, gained momentum as the campaign progressed, electrifying young voters and winning with 63.4% of the vote. Another candidate seeking…
