Asahi Group, Japan’s largest beer manufacturer, said it has suspended domestic order and shipping services after its production operations were suspended due to a cyber attack.
Reuters continued to investigate the number of plants affected by the company, citing a group spokesman that produced production at some of its 30 domestic factories remained suspended on Tuesday.
The company behind Asahi’s super dry beer and rafts of nikka whiskey and non-alcoholic beverages, said it could not predict production would resume.
The attack was first revealed on Monday. Asahi has issued a statement that orders and shipping operations at the Japanese-based company have been suspended along with call centre services “due to system failures.”
The group did not elaborate on the possible identities of the attackers, but said that the cyberattacks have not led to leaking customer data.
“We are actively investigating the causes and working to restore operations,” the company said in a statement Monday, adding that there was no estimated timeline for recovery. CNN reached out to Asahi for comment.
Asahi, which means “morning sun,” was founded in 1889, and founder Komakichi bottled Japan’s first draft beer in 1900.
It has become one of the world’s largest drink companies and owns international brands such as Peroni, London Pride, Glorsch and several non-alcoholic beverage brands.
