If you’ve scrolled through #SkincareTok at all, you’ve probably seen videos of skincare routines (no matter how elaborate) that include using perfectly folded disposable skincare towels after cleansing. But are they really a good alternative to using regular towels?
Casey Jones, an esthetician at SkinSpirit’s Dallas West Village, Texas, store, says that adding towels to your routine isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but they’re “less essential for healthy skin” than traditional towels. However, before you use a bath towel to dry your face, there are some things you should know about how bath towels can affect your skin.
“As long as your bath towels are clean, changed every day or two, and dried between uses, they’re perfectly fine for most people and are unlikely to cause problems,” she explains.
She goes on to say, “People with sensitive or acne-prone skin may experience problems, especially if towels remain damp for days or get contaminated with body oils, hair products, sweat, bacteria, etc. In such cases, it may be beneficial to use a separate face towel or change towels more frequently.”
The bottom line? If your towels are damp between uses, or if it’s been more than a few days since you washed them, you may want to consider adding washcloths or disposable towels to your routine. Keep reading for more expert advice from Kacie.
