Huawei launched its second-generation Trifold Phone, called The Mate XTS, on September 4th, 2025.

Huawei launched its second generation of TRIFOLD smartphones on Thursday as Chinese tech giant solidifies its comeback in the home market and appears to step out overseas.

Surrounded by Shin Shenzhen, the high-tech company starts with 17,999 Chinese yuan ($2,520) and starts with 21,999 yuan, the model with the largest memory.

Usually, a foldable smartphone has one hinge that allows the user to fold the device in half. Huawei’s companion XTS is called TRIFOLD. That is, there are two hinges that can be folded at two points. The phone will turn into a tablet-like device when it opens.

Huawei pioneered the concept last year when it launched its first device of its kind, the Mate XT. The product initially debuted in China, but competed in some overseas markets earlier this year.

The company hopes that Mate XTS will help maintain its rekindled momentum in the Chinese smartphone market from late 2023.

Huawei’s market share in China rose to 18% in the second quarter, at 15% in the same period last year, and the company is now China’s largest smartphone vendor, Counterpoint research data shows. According to International Data Corporation (IDC), in China’s collapsible phone category, Huawei controls 75% of the market share.

Since launching until the end of the second quarter of this year, Huawei has sold 470,000 units of MATE XT devices, generating more than $1.3 billion in revenue, IDC added.

“Performance is one of the most expensive smartphones available and shows that there is a demand for something innovative,” said Francis Cogeronimo, vice president of IDC’s devices.

Huawei still shows that it can innovate after the smartphone business was crippled in 2020 due to US sanctions that cut the company from key software and chips. Since then, Huawei has developed its own operating system, allowing for a more sophisticated chip manufactured in China for its recent devices, making it possible to make a comeback.

Still, Huawei’s market share remains small outside of China as it faces many challenges.

More about Huawei Mate XTS

Huawei’s Mate XTS runs Harmonyos 5.1, the latest version of its operating system.

The company places its phones as a productivity-focused device, offering PC-grade apps optimized for the TRIFOLD screens of smartphones.

Just like a PC, users can stack, resize and move different windows on the large screen of their phone.

The phone comes in four colors, packing the so-called 5600 Millianki Time (MAH) battery. This is relatively large with current devices in the market.

To seduce buyers, Huawei offers at least 50% off screen exchanges and two free bookings to serve your phone at home or at your preferred location.
