Conor McGregor has long-term plans as he seeks a rematch of his recent loss to Max Holloway in what would be the final fight on his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) contract.
In an Instagram post referencing next July’s UFC International Fight Week, McGregor wrote on Monday: “What was a generational fistfight is now being reset. IFW 2027. The Last Dance.”
If McGregor faces Holloway again, it will be the third time the two have faced each other.
McGregor (22-7) hurt his right knee on an early kick in a welterweight bout at UFC329 on July 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada, before Holloway (28-9) won by technical knockout in just 69 seconds.
The two fought again in August 2013, with McGregor winning by unanimous decision.
McGregor, 38, is scheduled to have a torn anterior cruciate ligament surgically repaired, which likely explains the long wait for a rematch.
“Conor McGregor is out for a year,” UFC president Dana White said of McGregor on Sunday, although the Irish fighter recently posted a video on Instagram showing him practicing his legs.
The July 11 fight was McGregor’s first in the Octagon in five years, following a technical knockout loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in Las Vegas. McGregor has lost each of his last three fights and four of his last five.
Holloway, 34, from Honolulu, defeated Charles Oliveira by unanimous decision at UFC 326 in Las Vegas in March, then bounced back to defeat McGregor.
