A French appeals court has confirmed that Moroccan captain Hakimi will stand trial in 2023 on charges of raping a woman, a charge he denies.

French media earlier reported that the Versailles Court of Appeal had rejected the appeal, paving the way for a trial in a criminal court at some point in the future.

“Today, a story that is not mine is being told, at the expense of my family, my life, and above all the truth. Sometimes I feel like I have become an easy target,” Hakimi wrote in a post on social media platform X.

“I’ve been waiting for this trial since day one, and now I’m looking forward to it. I can finally speak out.”

The Nanterre public prosecutor’s office in Paris, the capital of France, Investigation started in 2023 after a woman accused him of rape.

Hakimi, one of the world’s best right-backs, has denied any wrongdoing. A preliminary charge of rape was filed in March 2023 after a 24-year-old woman claimed to have been raped at Hakimi’s home in a Paris suburb.

It is not immediately clear when the trial will begin. According to Reuters, the Versailles Court of Appeal and Hakimi’s lawyer did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
