Anna Kendrick is stepping into a new role.
The Pitch Perfect alum, who previously made her directorial debut with Woman of the Hour in 2023, is returning behind the camera after signing on to direct Taylor Jenkins Reid’s 2017 novel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, according to multiple news outlets.
Lesley Headland was previously attached to direct the 2023 film, but Variety reports that she left the project for undisclosed reasons.
Evelyn Hugo’s Seven Husbands follows the classic Hollywood star as she gives her first, and according to her last, major interview in decades, revealing never-before-heard details about her career and, you guessed it, her seven husbands. In the course of the interview, the 79-year-old star reveals shocking secrets about her history and why she chose Monique Grant, a former junior journalist, to conduct the interview.
Netflix acquired the rights to the bestselling book in 2022, with Liz Tigelaar writing the first draft of the script, but only now has a director been named for the project. Jenkins Reid has signed on to executive produce, but no official casting information has been released.
