Why Blue Ivy Carter and Sunday Rose were able to attend the Met Gala despite the age restriction
The 2026 Met Gala was a family affair.
After all, co-chairs Beyoncé and Nicole Kidman both had their daughters with them. Queen Bey had 14-year-old Blue Ivy Carter by her side, while Nicole and ex-husband Keith Urban’s 17-year-old Sunday Rose Kidman Urban was the Big Little Lies star’s plus-one.
However, their attendance was technically against the rules, as attendees at fashion’s biggest night are generally required to be over 18.
This restriction is retroactive to Gala 2018, when the restriction went into effect. Maddie Ziegler, who was 15 at the time, lamented to The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m not old enough to go.”
In fact, event organizers confirmed to the same media outlet that the event was “not appropriate for anyone under the age of 18.”
Before the change, the youngest Met Gala attendees were Jaden Smith and Willow Smith, who made their debut in 2016 at ages 17 and 15, respectively, and Hailee Steinfeld, who first walked the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2011 at age 15.
