Users often search for recipes or travel plans on YouTube to find videos related to their queries. Now, the video platform is offering new tools to address these users’ needs with the introduction of an AI-powered interactive search feature that combines both text and video to display step-by-step results.
Through this new “Ask YouTube” feature, users can ask questions like “Plan a 3-day road trip from San Francisco to Santa Barbara” and get step-by-step results that combine text, short videos, and long videos, rather than just video results. The company says it will display videos and related video segments along with title and channel details to help users discover new creators.
Additionally, users can ask follow-up questions such as “Where can I buy good coffee?” Get suggestions in similar styles.
This feature is available to Premium subscribers in the United States who are 18 years of age or older. (Interested users must opt in to the experiment through this URL.) Google noted that it is working to make this feature available to non-premium users.
Google is promoting AI mode-style search on a number of fronts beyond YouTube. The company introduced AI mode last year, allowing users to ask multi-part questions and follow-ups. This year, we introduced AI-mode side-by-side web browsing and product price research. Last month, the company also introduced Gemini’s Canvas feature for maintaining projects within AI mode.
With this new feature testing on YouTube, Google may consider showing different types of videos along with sponsored placements in the future.
