‘Odyssey’ director Christopher Nolan reveals ‘absurd’ reason for banning UGG filming
Christopher Nolan is counting sheep on a movie set. In other words, fuzzy sheepskin boots.
The “Interstellar” director confessed one of his unconventional tenets in filmmaking. For very specific reasons, actors are not allowed to wear Ugg boots between filming for award-winning films.
“I want to stay in the moment, and I want the actors to stay in the moment,” Nolan told Gayle King during a July 20 appearance on CBS Morning. “For me, Ugg boots are a symbol of modernity, which is ridiculous.”
The 55-year-old likened the no-fluff procedure applied to stars like Anne Hathaway during the production of his latest period drama The Odyssey to eating junk food between takes.
“It’s like someone eating a bag of potato chips off camera,” Nolan explained. “There’s a reminder that you’re in the real world, as opposed to the world we’re trying to create for actors.”
Although he doesn’t think Agus helps the creative process, he made it clear that the Aussie favorites don’t have any personal issues.
