The Outset, reviewed by Scarlett Johansson

I know what you’re thinking. Another famous beauty brand that claims to save your skin. Trust me, we rolled our eyes too. But when I moved to New York and suddenly developed eczema on my face, eyelids, and hands (fun!), I reached a point where I would literally try anything.

Even after multiple dermatologist visits and countless prescriptions, my skin still felt inflamed, flaky, and borderline sore. That’s when I picked up Scarlett Johansson’s The Outset. It was mostly out of curiosity…not hope.

The brand’s simplicity immediately stood out. There are just a few gentle, vegan, fragrance-free formulas designed for sensitive skin. I started with the Daily Essentials Regimen Bundle. Gentle Micellar Antioxidant Cleanser, Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum, and Nourishing Squalane Daily Moisturizer.

In about a week, the redness around my eyes became lighter. After 2 weeks, the flaky spots were almost invisible. Then Star intervened. Botanical Barrier Rescue Balm is a rich, soothing balm that I now treat like liquid gold. Every time I felt a dry patch forming, I would dab it and boom, crisis averted. I also use it as a night mask in the winter. I have never had a failure.

No, you shouldn’t throw away your skin (my skin told me to keep using it if it likes it). But this is the only skin care product I have a monthly subscription to. Reordering is super easy thanks to the refillable pouch.

For eczema-prone or chronically dry skin, The Outset is worth the hype.
