Samsung on Wednesday detailed the features of its upcoming smart glasses, including gesture control, meta It’s in the device category.

The South Korean tech giant previously announced “intelligent eyewear” at the Google I/O conference in May, showing off two products designed in collaboration with partner Gentle Monster. warby hoodie. At the time, Samsung revealed few details about the design and features.

As first reported by CNBC earlier this year, at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday, the company said the glasses have a built-in camera. The camera can capture the content you are viewing, such as shooting a video. You can also read whiteboards and presentations and organize important information into notes.

This device is able to summarize long messages that a person receives on their smartphone. This is heard through speakers built into the glasses.

Samsung glasses have the following features: QualcommIt is powered by the Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 chip and requires tethering to your smartphone. The device also comes with a portable charging case.

James Choi, Samsung’s executive vice president and head of glasses research and development, said the company is testing gesture controls on smartwatches.

This means that people wearing Samsung smartwatches can perform functions on the device by performing certain gestures with their hands. Choi said users may also be able to perform gestures on Samsung’s Galaxy Ring, a device released in 2024.

Choi told CNBC that when the device launches this fall, there will be “more designs” and colors than what Samsung has shown so far.

meta challenge

Samsung, one of the world’s largest consumer electronics makers, is entering a market that Meta has dominated since 2021 with its smart glasses range, including its Ray-Ban lineup.

According to IDC, Facebook’s parent company captured a 69.2% share of the smart glasses market in the first quarter of 2026.

Meta has recently been expanding its portfolio of devices. Last month, the company launched an entry-level smart glasses set for $299, and in 2025 it announced $799 Meta Ray-Ban display glasses with a built-in display.

Choi did not disclose the price of Samsung’s products, but said they would be positioned as “premium” products. He added that the device will be sold through partner sales channels.

“We want to have a reasonable price, but like I said, we want to position the quality of the product itself as premium. That doesn’t mean it’s crazy expensive,” Choi said, adding that the glasses will not be “low-end.”

“Samsung’s arrival represents a serious challenge for Meta, but success is not guaranteed. While Ray-Ban Meta already has high visibility and growing adoption, Samsung has historically struggled to convert its vast smartphone base into users of complementary Galaxy devices,” PP Foresight founder Paolo Pescatore told CNBC.

“Eyewear also presents a valuable upsell opportunity, but Samsung must prove that it can offer compelling everyday use cases and persuade consumers to buy more than a smartphone.”

IDC analyst Francisco Geronimo said he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Samsung priced its devices between $600 and $700 to “strengthen its premium brand.” But he added that there is a risk in pricing devices higher than what Meta’s Ray-Ban products currently offer “without offering anything more.”

“It’s going to be a very difficult move to sell that kind of device,” Geronimo said.

Choi said the company is “just getting started” in the smart glasses field and expects it to be a “niche market” with sales of less than 100 million units in the early stages of Samsung’s entry.

However, he did not disclose Samsung’s sales forecast.
