Jane Fonda pays tribute to Ted Turner.
The Youth actress, who was married to the CNN founder for 10 years before divorcing in 2001, broke her silence following his death on May 6 at the age of 87.
“I loved Ted with all my heart,” she wrote on Instagram on May 6. “He burst into my life. A wonderfully handsome, romantic, adventurous pirate. I’ve never been the same. He needs me. “Nobody let me know that I was needed. This was the founder of CNN and Turner Classic Movies, the man who won the America’s Cup as the world’s best sailor.”
In addition to having a “rich life, a brilliant mind, and a great sense of humour,” Jane appreciated his caring nature.
“That was new too. Being needed and cared for at the same time is transformative,” she wrote. “Ted Turner helped me believe in myself. He gave me confidence. I think I did the same for him, but that’s what women were raised to do. Men like Ted shouldn’t express neediness or weakness. I believe that was Ted’s greatest strength.”
Of course, he also had strengths in business. “Ted was the most competitive person I’ve ever met, next to Katharine Hepburn, and that was very interesting to witness,” she explained.
