A student opened fire at a middle school in central Turkey on Wednesday, killing four people and injuring 20 others, the local governor announced, the country’s second school shooting in two days.

Kahramanmaras governor Mkerem Unruar said four of the injured were undergoing surgery.

One of those killed was a school teacher, Anruar said.

Unruah told reporters at the scene of the school shooting that the gunman committed suicide after the incident.

This is the second school shooting in Türkiye in recent days. On Tuesday, a former student opened fire at his alma mater, injuring 16 people, before committing suicide. Prior to this attack, school shootings were rare in Türkiye.

Türkiye’s Ministry of Justice said it would ban broadcasting of the shooting “in the interest of the integrity of the investigation.”

Justice Minister Akin Gurrek said in a statement on X that seven prosecutors have been assigned to the ongoing investigation.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
