Former Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin has left Mexico’s Club America, posting: “Protecting my children is my priority.”

Allan Saint-Maximin’s short stint at Club America came to an abrupt end just a few months after the French winger arrived in Mexico. The club announced his departure two days after it was revealed that children had been the targets of racist attacks.
The 28-year-old former Newcastle United winger signed a two-year contract worth $10 million with the Liga MX club in August, but made just 15 appearances before abruptly leaving on Saturday.

Club América expressed solidarity with Saint-Maximin’s departure announcement, but neither party provided specific details of the incident that led to Saint-Maximin’s decision to leave.
“We strongly condemn any acts of discrimination and/or violence that violate human dignity, both on and off the field,” the Mexico City club said in a statement.
“We express our absolute solidarity with Alain Saint-Maximin and his family, who have the support of everyone who is part of this institution.
“Thank you so much for wearing our colors, Alain Saint-Maximin.”
Saint-Maximin took to Instagram to address what he called attacks on children, and expressed his determination to protect his family.
“It’s not the color of your skin that matters, it’s the color of your thoughts. People attack me, but it doesn’t matter. I grew up learning to fight back against attacks, whether they’re subtle, covert, or direct,” he wrote on Instagram.
“But there is one thing I will never tolerate: people attacking my children. Protecting my children is my top priority. I will fight tooth and nail to make sure they are respected and loved, no matter their background or the color of their skin.”
“So to those who dared to attack my children, I say this: You made a mistake. I will always fight to protect my family. No person or threat will scare me.”
U.S. national team coach Andre Jardine said it was “a real shame” to lose a player of Saint-Maximin’s caliber.
“He’s a great player who did well in the league and has the ability to play in any league in the world. The move from Europe to Mexico was a big change for him,” Jardine said.
“He’s a great player, so we have to find a way to replace him.”
