But despite this, when she was diagnosed in 2015, Rita was still battling a decade ago. At that time, she could not help but notice the changes occurring in her body and how contradictory they were.
“It was interesting to look at my body like that and figure out what was missing,” she explained, “and also see what my body could do to heal and stay healthy and stay in that grateful state.”
The Now And Then star, who is the mother of Chet Hanks, 35, and husbands Tom Hanks and Truman Hanks, 30, has been in remission for more than a decade, but recently revealed that she had made plans early on in case the worst happened.
“I said to Tom, ‘Okay, if something happens and I make the first move, I just have two requests. And one, I want you to grieve for a very long time,'” Rita told Demi Moore at the Sounds of a Woman event in New York City on April 28. “The second one was to throw a party.”
“I want it to be a celebration of life,” she added. “I want it to be a work that people can tell stories and joy about and remember me in that way. And I think people, a lot of people want that, you know? I think there’s room for that.”
