Pakistan’s Fatima Sana smashed a 15-ball 50 against Zimbabwe, breaking the world record for fastest half-century in women’s T20 international cricket.
Playing at home at the National Stadium in Karachi, the all-rounder top-scored with 62 off 19 balls as Pakistan defeated the visiting team by 133 runs and shut out the series 3-0.
Sana broke the 18-ball half-century record held by New Zealand’s Sophie Devine, Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield and India’s Richa Ghosh.
With Pakistan opting to bat first, the captain relaxed from the first ball of the innings and scored a boundary over the score. She hit 10 fours and two sixes, smashing Zimbabwe’s pace attack in an innings played at a strike rate of 326.
Sana, who was predictably named Player of the Match, posted 223-4 in Pakistan’s 20 overs, picking up one wicket as Zimbabwe were bowled out for 90 runs in 17.1 overs.
Sana has been a standout player for Pakistan over the past few years and has improved, especially with his batting, since assuming the captaincy role.
The 24-year-old also scored twice against World Cup finalists South Africa in his first international match of half a century.
The Karachi-born player has taken 18 wickets and scored 283 runs in the last 10 matches of limited overs cricket.
