Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran's last shah, in Paris, France, on June 23, 2025.

Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran’s last monarch, thanked US President Donald Trump for “committing to holding the regime accountable” after he threatened to “attack” Iran in the event of a violent crackdown on protests.

“I would like to thank President Trump, the leader of the free world, for reiterating his promise to hold the regime accountable,” Pahlavi wrote in a post on X on Friday, calling on European leaders to “follow his lead, break their silence, and take more decisive action to support the Iranian people.”

Pahlavi called on protesters to take to the streets, claiming that during Thursday’s protests “millions of Iranians demanded freedom.”

There are no reliable and verifiable estimates of the number of protesters who took to the streets.

President Trump has expressed support for Pahlavi, but has so far denied meeting with him.

On Thursday, he told the Hugh Hewitt Show podcast that Pahlavi is a “nice guy” but that he would not meet him at this time.

Asked if he would meet with Trump, Trump said: “I’ve seen him and he seems like a nice guy. But I don’t know if it’s appropriate for him to do something like that at this point.” “I think we should let everyone out and let’s see who shows up. Personally, I don’t necessarily know if that’s the right thing to do.”
