And after a short timeout, James’ decision was all about where he could really see himself.
“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team, and I’m so excited to energize a new fan base and begin this incredible journey one last time. Thank you LA. I will always love Miami and Northeast Ohio will always be home!”
James’ big move marks a historic chapter in his career, with fans speculating that this could be one of the 41-year-old’s final seasons. James entered the NBA in 2003 when he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers right out of high school.
After seven years with his hometown team and earning the coveted Rookie of the Year honor, the so-called “Kid from Akron” made the decision to join the Miami Heat in 2010. There, James led the Florida-based team to back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013 with teammate Dwyane Wade.
However, James ultimately returned to his Ohio roots and rejoined the Cavs in 2014. He helped the team win the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the first time in its history in 2016, before leaving again to make history with the Lakers.
After announcing his departure from the Lakers, James wrote in X magazine on June 30, “It’s an absolute honor to wear the (purple and gold) as we continue our greatness and legacy.” “I hope I made some people proud during my tenure.”
