We will exit our position in Abbott Laboratories and sell 250 shares for approximately $129. Following the transaction, the Jim Cramer Charitable Trust will lose its position at Abbott. Abbott Labs on Wednesday reported a mixed quarter, with strength in its medical devices business partially offset by weakness in its nutrition and diagnostics division. For such a high-quality company, which has a long track record of beating analyst estimates and raising its full-year outlook, this is the second consecutive quarter in which it has lowered or maintained its guidance. Shares of this diversified healthcare company have performed well this year, rising about 14%, outpacing the broader healthcare sector’s rise of about 4%. However, the stock price has stalled since July as there was no positive revision to profits in the second quarter report. If there is no upside guidance for another quarter, the stock could remain flat. Rather than clinging to this small position, we are freeing up this capital for better opportunities. Finally, this sale increases our cash position to approximately 7.5% of our portfolio. The market is sensitive to trade relations with China, so this extra cash will give it more flexibility in the event of another headline selloff.
