Former Brazilian president, Jia Bolsonaro, was taken to hospital on Tuesday after feeling sick, his eldest son, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, said in X.

According to his son, the former coach suffered from tough matches of hiccups, vomiting and hypotension.

“I ask everyone to pray so that it’s not serious,” said the young Bolsonaro.

The news comes less than a week after the former president was convicted of planning a coup, and prosecutors say it includes plans to potentially assassinate current President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva.

Bolsonaro, 70, was sentenced to more than 27 years in prison. He denied any misconduct.

The far-right politician was previously hospitalized for pain related to a wound that persisted when he was stabbed on a campaign trail seven years ago.

It is unclear whether his latest hospitalization is related to the attack.

CNN has contacted the hospital for more details.

On Sunday, Bolsonaro went to the hospital for a series of tests and medical procedures to remove skin lesions, CNN Brasil reported.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
