2026 world cup post label

FIFA’s biggest global show saw 1,039 players from 48 countries play across 16 venues and score 308 goals.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup has officially come to an end, with Spain basking in the glory of their World Cup victory on the streets of Madrid and Argentina preparing to be stripped of their title.

Many will remember this global show as the biggest tournament in FIFA history, with three host countries, 16 venues, 104 matches played over 39 days, 1,039 players from 48 countries and 308 goals scored.

The scale of this tournament is reflected in the statistics, which surpass those of the 2022 edition in Qatar, and is a testament to the ever-evolving athleticism and limits of the sport.

Here’s the complete breakdown by numbers for the 2026 World Cup.

France and Real Madrid star forward Kylian Mbappé has scored 10 goals throughout the tournament, the most at a World Cup since West Germany’s Gerd Muller in 1970, and won his second Golden Boot award, surpassing Lionel Messi, who only scored eight goals in the 2026 tournament.

Mbappe, 27, scored the second goal in the third-place match between France and England and became the World Cup’s all-time leading scorer with 22 goals. Bellingham forward Jude Bellingham made history as the first Englishman to score seven goals in a World Cup.

Top goal scorer:

Kylian Mbappé (France): 10 goals, 4 assists Lionel Messi (Argentina): 8 goals, 4 assists Jude Bellingham (England): 7 goals, 1 assist Erling Haaland (Norway): 7 goals, 0 assists Ousmane Dembele (France): 6 goals, 2 assists Harry Kane (England): 6 goals, 2 assists Mikel Oyarzabal (Spain): 5 goals, 1 assist Ismaila Sarr (Senegal): 4 goals, 1 assist Julián Quiñones (Mexico): 4 goals, 1 assist Vinicius Junior (Brazil): 4 goals, 1 assist

Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Olisset scored his seventh goal in the third-place match against England, taking France to the top of the list for most assists.

The next best players were Norway’s Martin Odegaard, Mbappe, Morocco’s Brahim Dias, Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães and Messi, with four assists each.

In terms of attack, England and France led the way with 20 goals each.

The Three Lions had 14 assists, 118 goal attempts (52 shots on target) and 50% possession control. France, on the other hand, had 18 assists, 139 goal attempts (59 shots on target) and 51% possession.

Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gil contributed to his side’s shock victory over Germany with a string of saves, including two in the penalty shootout that took them to the last 16.

Spain’s Unai Simón produced the best performance that ultimately won him the Golden Glove Award, while Cape Verde’s Bosinha made his most memorable saves and heroics in his debut.
