Cole Hauser learned that life on a ranch might be better. But it’s not always easy.
The Dutton Ranch star confessed that filming the first season of the Yellowstone spinoff without showrunner Taylor Sheridan on set was more difficult than the team expected.
“There were challenges without Taylor,” Hauser told Film Inside New York on July 18. “Being able to really work with new writers, new directors, people changed everything.”
The fourth series of Sheridan’s Western World, which also stars Kelly Reilly as Hauser’s wife and Ed Harris as the town veterinarian, was originally directed by showrunner Chad Feehan, but the executive producer stepped down from the role before the May 1 premiere. (Benjamin Cavell was later announced as showrunner for season 2.)
In fact, Hauser said that “the only normal thing” about filming the Paramount+ show was working with returning cast and crew members, like his son Finn Little, who starred on the show.
As such, the 51-year-old said that “figuring out how to act on our feet and tell the story” is why he’s “proud of what we accomplished,” admitting, “I enjoy the challenge (and) it was certainly a challenge.”
