Friends don’t lie. Even if it’s not to protect the feelings of the fans.
And David Harbor didn’t hesitate to share a first-hand look at what happened to Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven in the final episode of Stranger Things.
“Do you think Eleven is alive?” he told USA Today at the Gotham TV Awards on June 1, before adding in a whisper, “I think she’s dead. I’m sorry! I’m sorry, I know.”
In fact, David, who played Jim Hopper on the hit series, isn’t the only Stranger Things character to have an opinion on how to interpret the open-endedness of Eleven’s fate. In the finale, which debuted on Netflix on December 31st, she appears to sacrifice herself to destroy the Upside Down forever, but all may not be as it seems.
It’s Mike (Finn Wolfhard) who suggests an alternate reality in the episode’s final moments.
Mike points out that there was no way Eleven could have used her abilities while under the influence of military technology, and instead tells her friends that Eleven’s visions in the rift were just an illusion, and that the teenager was instead able to escape and finally find peace by living a life off the grid somewhere.
