The boxing world is mourning the loss of a rising star.
Up-and-coming boxer Hannah Rupp, who challenged for the WBC women’s featherweight title in June, was killed on July 18 when she was hit by a car while riding her bicycle in Texas, the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office announced. She was 26 years old.
“Just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, deputies from the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 23000 block of FM 159 in reference to a major accident involving a vehicle and a bicycle,” local officials said in a July 19 statement. “Initial reports were that a vehicle struck a bicyclist, leaving an adult female lying in the roadway.”
“First responders arrived on scene and provided emergency medical care to the victim before transporting him to a local hospital,” the statement continued. “Despite life-saving efforts, she later died in hospital.”
The driver, “identified as 31-year-old Charles Medina,” passed Rupp and another bicyclist while traveling on FM 159, then stopped and “backed up and struck Rupp,” according to the statement.
