OpenAI has gained a new hardware partner. The AI Institute announced Monday that it has partnered with semiconductor company Broadcom on 10 gigawatts worth of custom AI accelerator hardware. These AI accelerator racks will be deployed in OpenAI data centers and partner data centers from 2026 to 2029. “By designing our own chips and systems, OpenAI is able to incorporate learnings from the development of frontier models and products directly into the hardware, enabling new levels of functionality and intelligence,” the company said in a press release.
