Typhoon Karmaegi carved a path of destruction into the Philippines late Thursday, uprooting homes and trees in central Vietnam and killing about 200 people. Karmaegi, one of the strongest typhoons ever to hit Vietnam, brought heavy rain and destructive winds to areas already saturated with flooding from record rainfall. An elite unit of the Iranian military planned to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to Mexico, according to a U.S. official familiar with the matter.
