Apple’s Siri revamp could include automatic chat deletion

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Garman, privacy will be a major theme when Apple unveils a new version of Siri at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

The relaunch of Siri is widely seen as a big chance for Apple to reestablish its relevance in artificial intelligence. As part of that effort, Garman said, company executives will argue that their company takes a more privacy-friendly approach than most other AI companies.

Apple will reportedly release its first standalone Siri app, powered by Google Gemini and offering users a chatbot experience reminiscent of ChatGPT. However, compared to other chatbots, this app should have more restrictions on how long user information can be used and stored.

For example, Garman said Siri could include functionality similar to the Messages app, allowing users to automatically delete conversations after 30 days or a year, or retain them indefinitely.

Garman also suggested that Apple might be emphasizing privacy as a way to excuse Siri’s shortcomings compared to competing products, and that this emphasis could obscure the fact that Google is handling some of the security stuff.
