Two years after promising and failing to develop a smarter Siri, Apple on Monday unveiled a completely overhauled AI-powered assistant at the Worldwide Developers Conference WWDC 2026. The Siri AI revamp will be available in beta later this year.
Dubbed the new “Siri AI,” the idea behind it is to transform Siri from a voice-controlled assistant to an AI companion that can do more. The new assistant launches with a dedicated Siri app.
The new Siri can use current knowledge of the world to base its answers to your questions. The updated assistant will be able to access information on your device and respond based on what you see on your screen.
The tech giant is transforming Siri into a full-fledged conversational AI chatbot for popular platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. This update brings major changes to Siri, previously known as the voice assistant.
When a user requests information, Siri displays a text card with results such as information from the web or details of a text message.
This assistant has also been redesigned for the latest iPhones, as it sits on the Dynamic Island. Currently, when you activate Siri, your side of the phone screen lights up. The updated Siri has added a new animation to the dynamic island instead.

The new “Write with Siri” option helps users write text. When you write with Siri in Email or Messages, your assistant can mirror the way you typically communicate with a particular colleague or friend. For example, if you typically send quick and direct notifications to your manager, drafting an email with Siri will give you just that.
Swipe down from the dynamic island to search, type to start a conversation with Siri, say “Hey Siri” or use the side button to get detailed answers.
Users can now ask Siri to perform more complex tasks, such as composing messages, by giving it specific information or topics to cover. Siri can pull in information from the web and previous emails, as well as details from your calendar, contacts, and more.
The tech giant also says Siri will feature an all-new voice experience, while also allowing you to speak at a customized pace and expressiveness. Additionally, system-wide dictation has been updated to better capture what you’re saying, from spelling to punctuation to capitalization, for improved accuracy.
With Siri AI, you can ask for detailed plans, share ideas, create brainstorming sessions, and get feedback on documents.
On macOS, the company is integrating the Assistant into Spotlight, so you can now use Siri anywhere and find answers to your questions. watchOS allows users to ask questions and take actions directly from their watch.
