airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said he would like to integrate ChatGPT’s artificial intelligence capabilities into the travel platform, but the software isn’t ready yet.
“(The software development kit) just wasn’t robust enough to do what we wanted to do,” he told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Wednesday.
Chesky said the company “maybe” eventually wants to integrate ChatGPT.
Airbnb on Tuesday introduced a series of new social features to its platform, including direct messaging. The update also includes a personalized version of the company’s chatbot, which was launched earlier this year and now allows users in North America to cancel or change reservations.
Chesky said in an interview with Bloomberg this week that the OpenAI chatbot is not “fully ready” to integrate with Airbnb. He said the model was created using 13 different chatbots and that Airbnb relies heavily on: Alibaba”Kwen model.
Chesky, a close friend of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, said this is just the beginning of an AI revolution and expects the technology to fuel a boom in consumer apps in the coming years.
“We all have to work together,” he said. “AI is going to lift a lot of companies. If they want to vertically integrate everything, it’s going to be very difficult.”
OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
