Becoming a crocodile hunter was more than Steve Irwin’s career path. That was his fate.
“I was born into it,” he says on Yahoo! He spoke to. Australia in 2002. “There was no choice.”
From an early age, Steve joined his herpetologist father, Bob Irwin, and wildlife rehabilitator Mama Lynn Irwin on an expedition to help him at a reptile park in Queensland, Australia. He then captured and moved crocodiles as part of the government’s public safety and conservation efforts.
In 1991, Steve took over his parents’ Reptile Park. While she was visiting from Oregon, he met his wife, Terry Irwin. After getting married in 1992, they began filming Docusary, a crocodile hunter.
Steve and Terry continue their passion for spreading conservation education through television shows and parks that grew up at the Australian Zoo, becoming parents to their daughter, Binderwin and son, Robert Irwin.
Steve passed away on September 4th, 2006. Stingray’s Barb passed away after he got into his mind while filming at the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44 years old. However, his legacy lives on through his work and his family.
“The most proud thing I personally accomplished,” he said in a video shared by the Australia Zoo.
