Defending champion Coco Gough defeated Belinda Bensik 4-6, 7-6 (7/4) and 6-2 in a tense encounter to counterattack them to reach China’s open quarter final.
Gauff then plays German Eva Lys or fellow American McCartney Kessler from Beijing.

“It was a tough match,” Gouf said Tuesday after his fourth match against Bensik. “I had the chance to close it first, but overall I’m happy with how I fought. She was really aggressive.”
Frustration was on both sides of the court, mainly in empty stadiums, as players switched half-dark in the shady sun and players switched half-dark.
There was a flash point between the two players during the switchover of two sets when Switzerland’s 15th seed Bencic said:
“You’re the one playing mind game,” shot back by Gauff, the second seed.
The 21-year-old Gouf put it together to win a tiebreak when Tokyo Olympic champion Bensik double-faulted at a set point and threw her racket in anger.
World No. 3 Goff broke early in the third set, carrying that momentum to win when flagging Vensik returned to the net.
With her last 16 wins, Gouf competed in the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia in November.
“I’m happy to be qualified again. I’m happy to be back in Riyadh and I’m happy to be able to do it here,” Gouf told an interviewer on the court.
“It’s been a tough tournament so far, but I’m glad I got through it.”
