Bangladesh continues to compete for the next round of Cricket’s Asian Cup 2025, beating Afghanistan with eight runs in Group B’s encounter in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Afghanistan has secured its position in the Super Four Stage and is close to knocking out Bangladesh, but it was short on Tuesday with 155 chases.

The Bangladeshi Pacers have restrained Afghan batsmen with regular wickets. Mastafizur Rahman (3-28 in 4 overs), Nasam Ahmed (2-11 in 4 overs) and Takkain Ahmed (2-34 in 4 overs) applied the brakes for Afghan innings.

Aside from Rahmanullah Gurbaz 35 (31) and Azmatullah Omarzai 30 (16), no Afghanistan batsmen were allowed to move to their 30s.

At the end of the inning, Captain Rashid Khan’s gust of wind – 20 (11) – appeared to be threatening Bangladesh at one point, but once he was fired, all Afghan opportunities were gone.

Despite the second half of the Spinner Noor Ahmad, Afghanistan was short and fired at 145 in the 20 overs.

Previously, Tanjid Hasan scored a top score in Bangladesh, setting a challenging goal of 154-5 in 20 overs in half a century (31 to 52 off 31).

Rashid and Noor took two wickets for Afghanistan.

Bangladesh currently plays all three of the group games and is waiting for the results of a very important match against Afghanistan’s Sri Lanka on Thursday.

Sri Lanka is in the top position with four points. Bangladesh came in second with four points.

The Tigers hope that Sri Lanka will beat Afghanistan and pave the way for the Super Four.

If Afghanistan wins, the net run rate could serve as a determinant.
