Salesforce focuses on national security.

The customer relationship management giant announced on Tuesday the creation of a new business unit called MissionForce. According to a company’s press release, it will focus on incorporating AI into its defense workflows in three key areas: HR, logistics and decision-making.

MissionForce will be led by Kendall Collins, CEO of Government Cloud. Collins joined Salesforce in 2023 and was previously Chief Business Officer and Chief of Staff for Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff.

“With Missionforce, we bring the best technology in AI, cloud and platforms from the private sector, modernizing key areas such as personnel, logistics, and analytics,” Collins said in a press release. “The goal is simple: helping fighters and the organizations that support them operate smarter, faster and more efficiently.

Salesforce has long-standing contracts with the US government at multiple branches of federal agencies and US military, including the US Army, Navy and Air Force. We do not publicly disclose the number of government contracts or the amount of revenues they have made.

The news is the latest in a wave of high-tech companies building and providing services for the US government.

Openai launched a version of ChatGPT, designed for US government agencies in January. In August, the company announced it had signed a government contract to allow federal agencies to access Enterprise ChatGpt Tier for just $1 a year.

Other companies quickly followed suit.

A week later, humanity announced that it would allow the US government to access the government and business class of Claude Chatbot for $1.

Google announced “Gemini for Government” in late August. It provides AI services to federal agencies for its first year of 47 cents.

This work has been updated to better reflect the position of Kendall Collins.
