Bank of America says these dividend stocks have a history of outperformance in this environment

Bank of America’s Business Cycle Metrics offers good news for certain dividend stocks. According to Equity and Quant Strategist Savita Subramanian, the bank’s US administration indicators were strengthened in the second month of August, confirming the recovery phase. Indicators measuring the combination of economic and business data have moved in and out of recovery since February 2022 amid volatility of macro signals and inflation uncertainty, she said. Among the strategies she worked in the past recovery phase was high-resolution yields, which she wrote in her notes on Monday. She said that it averages 5.6% for unconstrained investment styles with large sector sloping, and only 4.5% for sector neutral styles, which is relatively better than the same-weight S&P 500. More recently, dividends could also play a heavier role in total returns than in the past decade, Subramanian said. However, investors should focus on more than just yields when choosing to invest. Particularly because high dividends can be a sign of pain within the company. “If we are back to a world of total returns where the contribution of dividends to total market returns can be higher than the zero interest period, it suggests that investors are looking for companies that are beyond the market but do not have a growing dividend yield,” Subramanian said. Currently, the S&P 500 index generates 1.18%. To find these stocks, she and her team calculated and ranked Russell 1000 companies at 12 months’ yield. People in the second quintile of dividend yields are unlikely to include distressed companies that could migrate to the highest dividend yield group, the first quintile, if the stock price falls before the potential dividend cuts, she said. The second quintile also incorporates a “low price, high sales” valuation discipline, which means that if dividends rise faster than they grow, it becomes the third quintile. Below is some of the names that created the screen for Subramanian for September: Regional finance is one of many finances on the Bank of America list. Regional banks operating in the South, Midwest and Texas earned 3.92%, earning almost 16% this year. According to FactSet, the stock has an average price target of overweight and an average price rating of 6.2% increase. Some local finances have been purchased by Da Davidson and recently added it to their “best breeding” list focusing on long-term best-in-class companies. “The key aspects and peers of the ‘best bleed bison’ methodology, where RF stands out, are guided by the profitability of peering in terms of sustainable competitive moats, favorable market dynamics within the South franchise, and corruption for the fourth consecutive year (average concrete common equality),” analyst Peter Winter wrote on August 27th. Avalonbay Communities is also loved by analysts, with the average rating increasing the average rating and average price target by 12%, according to FactSet. Real Estate Investment Trusts develop, acquire and manage apartment communities. It has a dividend yield of 3.57%, losing about 11% a year. Meanwhile, AVB YTD Mountain Avalonbay Communities has so far scored 3.68%, up about 15% this year. During its latest revenue call in July, the utility company spoke about the demand for electricity escalating amid the data center boom. CEO Calvin Butler said Excelon has 17 gigawatt data center customers in the pipeline, and another 16 gigawatts expected to be part of the pipeline by the end of the year. According to FactSet, the average rating of stocks has an 8.5% increase from the average price target. Finally, Amgen’s dividend yield was 3.43%, up over 6% so far this year. Biotech Company announced earlier this month that it would spend more than $600 million to build a new research and development facility in California. It’s the company’s latest investment in the US, coming when the industry is trying to increase its presence in the country amid the threat of President Donald Trump’s tariffs. Amgn Ytd Mountain Amgen As of 2017, Amgen said it has invested nearly $5 billion in direct U.S. capital expenditures since the passing of the Tax Cuts and Employment Act in 2017. Stocks have an average analyst rating, up to average price target, for each fact set. (Learn the best 2026 strategies from within NYSE with Josh Brown and others on CNBC Pro Live.
