Analyst Matthew Dowd loses his job at MSNBC following commentary by Charlie Kirk

Political analyst Matthew Dowd is losing his job at MSNBC after his on-air comments following conservative activists Charlie Kirk’s murder About “words with hatred” that lead to “actions with hatred.”

MSNBC said Thursday that paid political analyst Dowd “is no longer on the network.” MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler and Dowd have announced public apology following his commentary.

Dowd said that Kirk was “a divisive person who is always pushing this type of hate speech aimed at a particular group,” Dowd said.

Kutler I posted an online apology For commentary on Dowd, which she called “inappropriate, insensitive, unacceptable.”

“If it’s political or not, there’s no place for violence in America,” she said.

Dowd pointed out on his Bluesky account that he was asked about the country’s political environment by anchoring Katy Tur.

“I apologize for the tone and words,” Dowd said. “Let me be clear, I didn’t intend my comment to blame Kirk for this attack. Let’s all come together to condemn violence of all sorts.”

Dowd, formerly a political strategist for President George W. Bush, joined MSNBC in 2022. Failed Campaign for the Lieutenant Governor In Texas as a Democrat. He spent nearly 15 years as an analyst at ABC News.
