President Donald Trump pays his respects.
The 79-year-old spoke about the time of Charlie Kirk’s death after a conservative activist was fatally shot at a lecture event at Utah Valley University. He was 31 years old.
“I am filled with sadness and anger over the vicious assassination of Charlie Kirk on a university campus in Utah,” he said in a video message on September 10th.
Trump continued to emphasize Kirk’s influence and passion for debate.
“His mission was to bring young people into the political process. “He defended ideas with courage, logic, humor and grace. It’s been a long time for all Americans and the media to face the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequences of demonizing people who disagree every day, every year, in the most hateful and despicable ways of each year.”
“This is a dark moment for America,” Trump said.
Kirk, who co-founded the conservative advocacy group Turning Point USA, was about 20 minutes after his presentation at Utah Valley University when witnesses heard the shootout from a nearby building.
