Two of the fastest and most powerful players in women’s tennis will face off on the Blue Hard Court at Arthur Ashe Stadium to lift the champions’ trophy at the 2025 US Open.
The women’s singles final between Aryna Sabalenka and Amanda Anisimova has been promoted as a matchup between two athletes with a very similar style of play, but has faced contrasting fortunes in recent years.

Sabalenka is at the top of the world rankings and despite playing in the finals of the Australian and France open championships, the Belarusian has not won a Grand Slam in 2025, but is the tournament’s defending champion.
Meanwhile, Anishimoba made an incredible comeback after losing to Iga Swieitok in the Wimbledon Finals with a double bagel that shed tears after a match in London in July (6-0, 6-0 scoreline).
The American with Russian roots quickly turned things around in order to qualify for his second Grand Slam Final within two months.

Has Sabalenka beat Anishimoba?
Yes, but Anishimoba has the advantage when it comes to head-to-head encounters. The Americans have won six of their nine matches so far, including a thrilling three-set meeting in the Wimbledon semi-finals.
Sabalenka beat Anishimoba at the French Open, finishing in a straight set (7-6, 6-3) in the 16th round.
World Number Nine has defeated the US Open Top Seed twice since returning to competitive tennis in 2024.

Why did Anishimova leave tennis?
The 24-year-old, once considered a teenage genius, left the game in May 2023, fearing burnout and concerns about her mental health.
She returned to the beginning of the 2024 season and competed in the fourth round of the Australian Open.

“I was so terribly hoping to give another opportunity, another final, and I want to prove to myself that I have learned those tough lessons.
