The club has announced that centre-back William Saliba will not require surgery due to the injury he sustained at the World Cup.

Arsenal defender William Saliba will be out for an extended period after sustaining a lower back injury while playing for France during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the reigning Premier League champions have announced.
Saliba was plagued by injuries throughout the tournament in North America, which limited his training. He came on as a substitute in the first half of France’s 2-0 semi-final loss to Spain and was absent from their 6-4 third-place match against England.
“Following specialist tests on William after his return to London this week confirmed that he has sustained a back injury and will require a period of rehabilitation,” Arsenal said in a statement on Wednesday.
“After extensive evaluation, we have concluded that surgery is not recommended, but Mr. William should begin a managed recovery program.
“Everyone is fully committed to supporting William back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
Last season, Saliba played 50 games in all competitions for the north London club as the Gunners ended a 22-year wait to win the Premier League and reached the Champions League final.
Arsenal will begin their defense of the Premier League title at home against promoted side Coventry City on August 21st.
