President Donald Trump’s trade adviser Peter Navarro said on Sunday that if the president’s fundamental tariffs are ultimately blocked by the US Supreme Court, “it will be the end of the United States.”

Navarro’s comments reflected Trump’s own rhetoric as the president sharply criticized last week’s 7-4 appeals court ruling.

The final decision on this issue could be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. As the fight over Trump’s tariffs intensifies, the president’s adviser considers the ultimate outcome to be crucial for the country’s future.

“This was partisan injustice that was weaponized at its worst,” Navarro said on Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“If we lose the incident, President Trump is right. That would be the end of the United States,” he said.

Navarro also said he felt “very optimistic” about the administration’s argument against the Supreme Court.

“A very good objection will provide the Supreme Court with a roadmap. We feel very optimistic,” Navarro said.

The U.S. Federal Circuit Court of Appeals determined Friday that Trump had summoned the International Emergency Economic Force Act of 1977 to exaggerate his presidential authorities to justify drastic “mutual” tariffs on almost every country in the world.

The appeals court allowed Trump’s tariffs to remain in effect until October 14th, giving the Trump administration time to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court.

“If these tariffs disappear, it will be a complete disaster for the country,” Trump wrote to his true society after the ruling.

He added, “With the help of the US Supreme Court, we will use (customers) for the benefit of our nation, making America rich, powerful and powerful again!”

Trump repeated his disastrous warnings about tariffs later on Sunday.

“Without tariffs, all of the trillions of dollars we have already taken will be completely destroyed, our country will be wiped out immediately,” he wrote of the true society.

Trump’s claim that his tariffs already generate “trillions of dollars” for our funding is false. So far, the US has generated $142 billion in tariff revenue for this fiscal year, according to latest Treasury data. And much of that amount came from the tariffs received before Trump’s tariffs “liberation day” in April. Most of the taxes announced as part of that development did not take effect until early August.

The Tax Policy Center estimates that Trump’s tariffs will raise a total of around $2.9 trillion from 2026 to 2035 if Trump’s tariffs are ultimately found to be legal.

Still, Trump’s tariffs are not paid by foreign governments or businesses. American consumers are usually the brunt of tariffs as American companies need to raise prices to accommodate higher costs. The Tax Policy Center estimates that Trump’s tariffs will impose an “average taxpayer’s burden of approximately $2,700 in 2026.”

According to the Tax Foundation, without court cases, tariffs were set to affect approximately 69% of US goods imports, but if blocked, the obligation would affect approximately 16%.

Some of Trump’s agendas are safe from a court decision on Friday. Most notably, his taxation on sector-specific steel and aluminum remains unaffected by the Court of Appeals’ decision.
