Rohit hit 138 off 110 balls in the third ODI loss to England, but there was speculation that it would be his last for India.

Former India captain Rohit Sharma has rubbished speculation about his international future and said his sole focus will continue to be to represent his country and contribute to the team’s success.

The 39-year-old’s comments came after he smashed a blistering 138 off 110 balls in India’s chase in the last international match of the day against England on Sunday, amid reports that the match at Lord’s could be his last appearance in Indian colours.

Sharma had previously said he intended to play in the 2027 ICC World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Sharma failed to reach triple digits in 11 ODIs and his 100 was the end to his futile run, raising questions about his place ahead of next year’s World Cup. However, the opening game maintained the support of team management.

“My job is to pick up the bat. I’m going to come and play and represent my country and represent my team. That’s what I’ve been told to do since my debut, so that’s what I’m going to do,” Sharma said in an interview on the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s website.

“The noise has been there since I debuted, and it will always be there until the time I stay here.

“So, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is what I do on the field, trying to contribute to the team’s success. That’s all my focus right now. And let the noise be there. If there’s no noise, there’s no fun.”

Despite Rohit’s innings, India lost the match and conceded the ODI series 2-1.

India will next travel to Zimbabwe for three consecutive matches of the ‘Twenty20’ international series from Thursday to Sunday before traveling to Sri Lanka for the Test series next month.
