Nvidia reports record sales as the AI boom continues

Nvidia, the world’s most valuable company, reported another quarter of the sustained revenue growth rate in its revenue statement on Wednesday, up 56% from the same period last year, with revenue of $46.7 billion. That growth was driven significantly by the AI-controlled data center business, with revenues rising by 56% year-on-year.

Nvidia also saw a significant increase in net profits from last year. The company reported net profit of $26.4 billion in the second quarter, a 59% jump from last year’s same period.

The company has generated $41.1 billion in revenue from quarterly data center sales, suggesting that AI companies’ demand for cutting-edge GPUs continues to increase. Blackwell, the company’s most advanced chip generation, accounted for $27 billion in these sales.

“Blackwell is the AI platform the world has been waiting for,” CEO Jensen Fan said in a statement accompanying the release. “AI races have begun and Blackwell is the platform for that center.”

Huang said the company expects to spend between $3-4 trillion on AI infrastructure spending by the end of the decade. “$3-4 trillion will be pretty wise for the next five years,” he told one analyst.

The company specifically made a note of its role in the launch of OpenAI’s open source GPT-OSS model earlier this month. This included processing “1.5 million tokens per second” on a single NVIDIA Blackwell GB200 NVL72 rack-scale system.

The revenues also looked at Nvidia’s continued struggle to sell chips in the Chinese market. The company reported that China-centric H20 chip sales have not been sold to Chinese customers in the past quarter. Nvidia reported that $650 million worth of H20 chips have been sold to customers outside China.

The US has long restricted long sales of advanced GPU sales to Chinese customers, but the geopolitical situation has changed dramatically under President Trump. The company is now permitted to sell tips to China as long as it pays a 15% export tax to the US Treasury as a result of an unconventional arrangement that legal scholars described as unconstitutional abuse of power.

In a revenue call, Nvidia CFO Colette Kress revealed that the lack of shipments was the result of uncertainty over arrangements that are not officially codified by federal regulations. “Some of our China-based customers have received licenses over the past few weeks, but have not shipped H20 devices under these licenses.”

Still, the Chinese government has officially discouraged the use of Nvidia chips by local businesses, and is reportedly halting production of H20 chips earlier this month.

Nvidia said it expects revenue of $54 billion in the third quarter. The company noted that its third quarter outlook, which could shift 2% in either direction, does not include H20 shipments to China.
