Linda Noskova’s victory over Karolina Muchova makes her the third Czech women’s singles champion in the past four years.

Linda Noskova recovered from a nerve attack that cost her five match points in the second set to beat fellow Czech Karolina Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in the roller-coaster Wimbledon women’s singles final on Saturday.

The 21-year-old was in complete control, winning the first set in 32 minutes and leading 5-2 in the second set in the first professional Grand Slam singles final between two women from the Czech Republic.

But the struggling Muchova saved three match points at 2-5, then double-faulted on a shaken Noskova’s serve in the next game and then another at 4-5, bringing a belated return to life on Center Court in what had previously been a one-sided match.

Ninth-seeded Noskova suffered a fifth straight loss as Muchova took the match to a decider.

Somehow Noskova exorcised the demons in her head and regained control, leading 5-2 in the third set.

Muchova, 29, fell one game back as a shadow crept onto the court, but when Noskova served her second time, she had no doubt that she had won her first Grand Slam title.

More than an hour after her first match point and two more match points later, she hit a serve she couldn’t return and collapsed onto the court looking as relieved as she was happy.

She becomes the third Czech player in four years to win the Wimbledon women’s title, following Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024.
