Apple pledges $30 billion to Broadcom to boost U.S. chip manufacturing

apple Announces expansion of partnerships with chip manufacturers broadcom The multi-year deal is expected to be worth more than $30 billion, making it the iPhone maker’s largest U.S. manufacturing commitment to date.

Broadcom’s stock rose more than 6% after Wednesday’s announcement, its biggest gain since February.

The deal will lead to the production of more than 15 billion U.S.-made chips and includes a $1.5 billion expansion of Broadcom’s facility in Fort Collins, Colorado. Apple did not provide a timeline for when the new capacity would come online.

Broadcom has long supplied Apple with connectivity components, but the new deal deepens the relationship around custom U.S. silicon. Apple said Broadcom makes wireless components used to connect devices to cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networks.

Broadcom said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday that it has entered into a new long-term agreement with Apple to develop and supply “custom ASIC silicon products” for multiple generations of Apple products through 2031. ASICs are application-specific integrated circuits that are increasingly used in artificial intelligence workloads.

For outgoing Apple CEO Tim Cook, the deal marks the latest commitment to investing in U.S. manufacturing, a key focus of the Trump administration. This is the largest part of the company’s $600 billion four-year U.S. investment plan announced in 2025 and represents the largest commitment to date under the American Manufacturing Program (AMP), which was launched to expand domestic production across the supply chain.

“Apple has been working with the U.S. government and companies across the country to help build an end-to-end silicon supply chain in the United States, and today’s announcement advances that effort,” Apple said in a release.

Cook said the components built in Fort Collins are “essential” to the performance and connectivity Apple customers expect, and thanked President Donald Trump and his administration for supporting the project.

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said Apple’s efforts will help the chipmaker expand its manufacturing footprint in Fort Collins.
