It is China’s first major military parade since 2019, the 70th anniversary of the founding of Communist China. This week marks the end of World War II. This is a conflict that has devastated China.
The parade aims to instill pride in the masses and ensure that the country is strong enough to drive away attacks. However, China’s growing military power has also been linked to Asian neighbours and the United States.

The US and Western European heads of state are as separate as their leaders in Japan, India and South Korea.
