Egypt faced Australia on Friday in Dallas in the round of 32 in the tournament co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.
“A man and his son went to take a photo with Ibrahim Hassan and Trezeguet, and the national team director approved their request,” Mohamed Morad, head of media for the Egyptian national team, told Reuters.
“However, even though the players and team director were in the designated area, security intervened and shoved the fan, Trezeguet and Ibrahim Hassan. Ibrahim then asked security to respond to the fan in the normal manner.”
The Dallas Police Department (DPD) said it is aware of a video circulating on social media showing a heated exchange involving one of its officers.
“The Dallas Police Department responded to an area hotel in response to a request by hotel security regarding an individual attempting to access the event without proper eligibility,” the statement posted on social media said.
“We then discovered that each individual had not properly displayed their credentials as required.
“The situation was resolved at the scene and DPD met with team representatives to address the concerns. The matter has since been resolved.”
