11. Davis was both terrified and excited about his first major film role as Warner. “I was really substandard,” he reflected at the 2020 reunion. “I literally just got off the back of a turnip truck from Salt Lake City, Utah, and I couldn’t get out of Utah fast enough and I stumbled across this movie called ‘Legally Blonde.'” Very green, he admitted, although he harbored some feelings for his co-star (“I think he liked everyone,” Corfiel told The New York Times), “I was shitting my pants every step of the way.”
Davis’ first scene saw him breaking up with Witherspoon. “I sat down and all of a sudden Elle Woods was there,” he said. “Elle Woods was so big, so vibrant, and I realized that all my choices were wrong.”
12. Twenty years later, it still pisses me off that Warner was insensitive when he dumped his college sweetheart over dinner (“If you’re going to be a senator by 30, you’ve got to stop cheating”) before proposing to Vivian Kensington (Selma Blair), a Harvard law student known as “Jackie.”
“For years and years and years, people were saying, ‘You’re a Legally Blonde a-hole!'” he said during a virtual get-together, prompting Witherspoon to come to his defense. “I’m here to tell people that Matthew Davis is the most amazing person!” she insisted. “He was just playing a character.”
