ESPYS 2025: Shane Gillis slams Bill Belichick and Jordan Hudson with age gap joke
Athletes are gearing up for the biggest night in sports.
No, we’re not talking about the Super Bowl or the release of Hot Rivals Season 2. Nominations for the ESPY Awards (to be held on July 15th at New York City’s Lincoln Center with comedian Marcelo Hernandez as host) have been announced, recognizing the efforts of athletes in college and professional sports.
What makes this year’s ESPYs especially exciting is that the 2026 Winter Olympics performance is in scope, with the U.S. men’s and women’s hockey teams both competing for Best Play and Best Team in the Gold Medal Game.
Norwegian cross-country skier Johannes Hosfrot Kleibo, the first athlete to win six gold medals in a single Winter Olympics, is also nominated for the Best Record-Breaking Performance Award, while figure skater Alisa Lieu is also nominated for the Best Emerging Athlete Award.
Among the athletes nominated for the Athlete of the Year award in both men’s and women’s sports are basketball stars A’ja Wilson and Jalen Brunson, NBA championship-winning New York Knicks captain and soccer player Lionel Messi, MLB pitcher Shohei Ohtani, current NFL MVP Matthew Stafford, women’s hockey captain Hilary Knight, and professional golfer Nelly Korda.
