You probably have some makeup products that have been sitting in your drawer for a long time. sYou may be wondering if it’s time to throw it away or if it’s still safe to use. You’re not the only one asking these questions. That’s why we spoke to professional celebrity artist Thynna Wagenblast to find out.
How do I know if my cosmetics are expired?
Are you asking, “Do cosmetics have an expiration date?” According to Wagenblast, the short answer is yes.
Just like food and medicine, cosmetics have an expiration date. Using expired cosmetics can cause irritation and wreak havoc on your skin. Even if your old makeup doesn’t seem to be affecting your skin, expired formulas, especially those with active ingredients, can have a different effect than intended.
“A good rule of thumb is to check the packaging for the PAO mark, which looks like an open bottle and indicates how long the product will last once opened,” she explains. “Usually you’ll see 6M, 12M, or 24M, with the “M” lasting several months. ”
Beyond Wagenblast, we advise you to pay attention to any changes in odor, texture, color, or performance. “If your product smells different, feels different, can’t be used differently, or has changed color, it may have expired.”
And of course, if the product irritates your skin, stop using it and throw it away immediately.
